Microsoft launches collaborative research

The new product from Redmond plugin will be available for Internet Explorer browser and will complement the implementation, a new taskbar for searches.

order to use the new features offered by Microsoft, users will be holding a Live account, which is essential to access most of the online services offered by software giants. Once installed, the plugin provides searching of contacts available for each account, providing the ability to select the number of friends to be invited to the session of collaborative research. Using the "Search" to Internet Explorer, each user has the opportunity to instantly share the results of their search with accounts invited to the session. Searches are then stored by the plugin, which can thus provide a history of visited pages on a deferred basis, for members of the research team if absent. All users also have the opportunity to write comments on the quality Web pages visited, small reviews are subject to a simple voting system (Digg-style) by other users. Except for possible changes, SearchTogether should be available for download during the late spring of 2008.

During the appointment of TechFest, the head of the Microsoft Research presented two other projects aimed at improving the quality of online searches for users. It is being developed CoSearch the application, a new collaborative research focused on the research group through a single personal computer : a very promising prototype, which could find numerous uses in particular in education, allowing a sort of brainstorming extended to the Internet [pdf ]. In addition to CoSearch, Microsoft Research presented another interesting prototype for online searches: Searchbar . The new service applies the principle of operating history, Web sites visited, the results of research carried out online. Through a tree, Searchbar stores the results of any search for topics by dividing them on the user's indication . The system will also store the pages to visit, allowing the user to perform very complex and extensive research without fear of losing any results of each stage of research.

While the release period for SearchTogether is certain now, Microsoft has not provided a specific timetable for the introduction of CoSearch and searchbar.
